Walk-A-Thon to Help End Slavery

Nonprofit Durga Tree International, based in Ramsey, New Jersey, will hold its second annual Lacing Up For Freedom Walk-a-Thon on May 16 at the Saddle River Wild Duck Pond, in Ridgewood., and this year’s walkathon is slated to be an even bigger event. Montvale Animal Hospital will offer basic grooming the day of the event to any dogs participating in the walk.

The day is full of fun for the whole family including a pre-walk warm up, light breakfast and lunch, entertainment and local vendors. Walkers of all ages are welcome may register to become fundraising participants, along with well-behaved, leashed canine companions. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers in the youth, adult, canine and team categories.

Co-founder Beth Tiger states, “We set out to make a small ripple in the effort to end modern slavery, and now that ripple is slowly, but surely turning into a wave.” Last year’s event raised more than $40,000.
