Salt Therapy Allergy Treatment Popularity on the Rise

by Brielle Bleeker

Salt therapy, or halotherapy, is a natural, non-invasive therapy that has been gaining popularity in the U.S. over the last few years as a treatment for allergies and other ailments. It has been around for hundreds of years and its origins can be traced back to Europe, where natural underground salt caverns are common. Today, the salt cavern environment is re-created with Himalayan salt-covered flooring and walls. Much clinical research has been conducted and has demonstrated how this type of therapy can help treat and alleviate the symptoms of allergies.

Allergies occur as a result of a misguided reaction by the immune system to foreign substances. Although traditional medical treatment of allergies has long been available, many people are seeking alternatives to traditionally prescribed or over- the-counter medications in order to find solutions without potential side effects.

Within many holistic health-minded communities, halotherapy is rapidly becoming the go-to choice to treat allergies, asthma, eczema and sinusitis, as well as many other chronic respiratory issues. There are currently more than 30 salt therapy rooms in the U.S. and their number is on the rise. Allergy sufferers need only sit in the salt room and breathe in the clean, dry, salty air while relaxing to see results. Bacteria and pollutants found in the respiratory tract will dissolve, improving lung and breathing function.

Salt Breeze, Bergen county’s first salt therapy spa located in Fair Lawn, is scheduled to open their doors on April 16. They will offer a state-of-the-art respira- tory and skin salt therapy spa equipped with natural Himalayan salt.

Salt Breeze is located at 5-05 Saddle River Road. For more information or to set an appointment, call 201-254-9492 or visit SaltBreezeNJ.com.
