The Surprising Benefits of Tourmaline

Pounding surf, the movement of water over a waterfall and the mineral tourmaline all create calming negative ions. Tourmaline is a combination of minerals known as boron silicates that occur in more colors and color combinations than any other group. Crystals of good color and clarity are often cut into beautiful gemstones. Robert Simmons, co-author of The Book of Stones, refers to tourmaline as, “One of the most significant mineral groups for metaphysical use.”

It has been said that tourmaline’s combination of minerals can absorb heat from the environment and radiate this back as far-infrared waves, known to assist healing as used in saunas for their detoxifying effect. Each of the crystals that create tourmaline has a negative and a positive pole, making a tiny electrical charge that gives tourmaline the nickname of “electrical stone”.

A patent-pending technology exists to bind tiny, pulverized tourmaline crystals to any fabric in order to wear tourmaline and get the beneficial heat radiating and negative ion effect. The ancient practice of using a crystal for healing has met modern technological advances to produce some interesting products. Tourmaline has been infused into socks and other clothing, medical kinesiology adhesive body tape and even blankets. More products are in development because there are so many applications for this technology.

It is claimed by practitioners that images taken with a far-infrared camera can graphically demonstrate improvement in just 15 minute, and certain professional athletes and weekend warriors are using the body tape.
