Costco Shoots Past Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods Market, founded in 1978, grew to be the number one seller in the nationwide movement toward organic and natural eating, with more than 400 stores. But mainstream grocers such as WalMart and Kroger have since jumped on the bandwagon, and smaller players like Trader Joe’s and The Fresh Market have proliferated. Now Costco has moved into the current number one position, illustrating the market potential of budget-conscious consumers that desire to eat better.
