0Hesitation, the Cornerstone of Mediocrity
Is it just me, or have these last three months been especially interesting, amazing, challenging and rife with numerous and sometimes jaw-dropping synchronicities? Pat and I are both experiencing this on a regular basis, as well as a number of those around us. A long-term advertiser that sees many clients each month reports that she also senses the change. She’s witnessed more and more clients engaged in activities such as leaving dead-end relationships and careers, choosing a healthier lifestyle, awaking to spiritual growth, standing up for themselves and no longer engaging in abusive or dysfunctional interactions with friends, family and co-workers.
We’re at a point where there’s no denying that something different is brewing in the air. I recently went to dinner with a group of friends and the topic of change dominated the conversation. My own personal transformation, most of which has occurred in the last three years, has also influenced or had some impact on those around me.
Nobody in this world is insignificant. Each and every one of us affects all those we come in contact with, especially those closest to us. If you want to see change in the world, be the change. This is always the starting point. We now exist in a new era. The space we all inhabit is and will continue to change, and it’s taking us along for the ride—sometimes gently and sometimes not-so-gently—pushing us to align with this new energy. I have reported on this topic in past publisher letters and you can read them online at JerryHocek.com.
It’s shaping up to be a most intriguing year for me. Since 2016 began, I’ve been offered a paid speaking engagement, I’m negotiating a book deal with a publishing company, an old friend has invited me to stay at a villa on the Amalfi Coast in Italy this summer. I’m also planning a trip this year with another friend to the Amazon region of Peru and Brazil, and I may visit Frankfurt, Germany in a couple months to join yet another friend that was asked to play bass guitar as a stand-in for one of our favorite childhood heavy metal bands.
Lately, I sometimes ask myself, “How did I get here?” I decided a while back that I would travel more, write a book and do some public speaking, and I then began to move in that direction by molding my thoughts, attitudes, habits and actions. Just remember that the world is full of hesitation, the cornerstone of mediocrity. Don’t submit to that—rise above it.
